Green Is The New Black
So it’s brutally come to my attention that the bandwagon of environmentalism continues to pick up speed, as more and more corporations and socialites glitter the mainstream media with the brightest colour of our generation: green. There’s no escaping it. It’s probably the biggest buzzword since Viagra. It seems as though anyone with a triple-digit salary has to proclaim that now fabled phrase to garner any sort of respect these days and surely you know what I’m talking about.
“Go Green!”
“Go Green!”
“Go Green!”
Go suck an egg. I mean really, when those words start to adourn the covers of magazines like Cosmopolitan and Forbes and flash through promotions on MTV and The Disney Channel, you know things have taken a turn for the worst. Is it really possible for a colour to sell out? Suddenly everyone’s going USDA Organic and competing for bragging rights about carbon emissions. Just to give you an idea, let’s consult Google for a moment and see what happens:

Don’t get me wrong, all this media attention is great but that old adage about publicity just doesn’t apply here. Going green has become popular, yes and that’s great — that’s what environmentalists have been trying to do for decades. But when big, fat, greedy conglomerates decide to bank on the whole philosophy by tapping the burgeoning “green” market and sucking as much “green” out of the whole thing as possible, it makes me start to feel a little… well, green.
See? I can whore it out too. But I guess I can’t really complain. It’s not like their practices are anything new. If they’re gonna sell out and shove more shit down our throats on an weekly, daily, hourly basis, then it might as well be something worth swallowing.
